Junior Inter-Area weekend 3rd/4th September
Calling all Moravian Juniors…
This year’s Scottish Junior Inter-Area weekend will take place in early September in Pitlochry. Juniors from the three Scottish regions (East, North and West) come together to compete in friendly rivalry with a relay event on the Saturday, an overnight stay with food and entertainment followed by an individual event on the Sunday. For further details see scottish-orienteering.org/news. Pippa Weir will be sending out an email to juniors in the next couple of days. Please reply or contact her (phweir(@)btinternet.com) if you are interested in participating in this year’s event.
Coast and Islands report
Well, what a wonderful week of quality but low key orienteering in a real holiday atmosphere on Kintyre and Arran. The event is masterminded by Chris Smithard, who put on a series of events that took us to some areas not used for orienteering before. Sprint courses around a couple of castles (one ruined) contrasted with deciduous and coniferous forest. Steve Smirthwaite’s map of Torinturk was praised - very complicated terrain, lots of rock outcrops and options to run along a rocky beach if you wanted to! Look up the results (coastandislands.com) to see how Moravians got on. Eddie, Rob, Roo and Paul competed on the Medium course, Eddie finishing 3rd male. Steve, Penelope, Laurie and Ali ran on the short course, with Steve finishing 5th male. Isobel took time out from travelling around Europe to run the Long course on Arran at the end of the week. Margaret enjoyed an outing on Arran as well.
Rumour has it that next year’s event will be held on Harris, sometime before the Scottish Six Days, which of course is being held in Moray next summer. Details of Coast and Islands 2023 will be published soon on the Coast and Islands webpages.
