Scottish Sprint Championships
Recently we saw yet more Moravians on the podium. You can see the four medallists on the right. Andrew gold and Colin silver - 11 seconds apart in the Men's Super Vets Class, Morag was the bronze medallist in the Women's Vets and Eddie was also bronze in the men's Ultra Vets. The event was run round an estate in Kirkintilloch, followed by a bonus urban event round a local wildlife reserve.

Club Development Officer - Will Hall
We are pleased to announce that we have been successful in recruiting a Club Development Officer, Will Hall, to lead the development of a training, coaching and activity programme linked to and extending on Moray 23 this summer.  This provides us with an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of orienteering in Moray, and will help to increase participation at all orienteering events in the Moray area.  The role will be targeted at the junior age group, and we hope will lead to an increase in junior and adult/family club members. We have secured funding from the Orienteering Foundation and the SOA, which together with a contribution from club funds has allowed us to offer Will a two day per week contract for 12 months.

The plan is for Will to work alongside our club coaches, particularly Karen and Morag, as well as our keen Junior orienteers to engage with school and family groups, for example with Active Schools and Outfit Moray.  At the same time, Fran Loots (Scottish Orienteering Association) will be developing some activities in the lead up to Moray 23 - the first one of which was an Introduction to Orienteering course delivered to teachers in Elgin last week. Will attended this course, and made some useful contacts.

Some of us met Will at the Altyre local event a few of weeks ago. Will lives in Burghead, and has considerable experience working for local organisations that provide training in outdoor activities, particularly for a younger audience. He also has a lot of social media expertise, which he has developed to support his developing Wildlife photography interests. We have asked Will to introduce himself to you in the next newsletter.  Will is being managed on a day to day basis by Rob and Karen. If you have any ideas or suggestions for activities to engage local groups that Will could develop, please let us know.  Will’s email is cdo(at)mor.scot.
