Event Summary

Welcome to our AGM event at the wonderful Brodie Castle.  We have use of the grounds and hope for some late summer sunshine to have our AGM, which will be outside and as soon as possible after the event.  Please bring a picnic and chair to sit on.  After the orienteering and AGM, please visit the National Trust cafe and perhaps a look around the castle.

Please note that the National Trust charge £5 for parking which lasts all day,  National Trust members are able to park for free.

Courses close at 1330 hours.  All competitors must report to download by this time.

Directions and Parking

Directions and Parking.   From the East, please take the A96 out of Forres and head over the Findhorn Bridge towards Brodie.  At the crossroads (w3w:///paddlers.bikes.surpassed) signed Brodie Castle (Dyke and Kinnesack) right turn.  Continue over a bridge for about 1 km to a T-junction and the entrance to Brodie Castle opposite. Enter Brodie Castle and follow the signs to Brodie Castle car parking.  National Trust charge £5 for parking for non-National Trust members.   

From the West, please take the left turn off the A96 at Brodie immediately after the Brodie Country Fare.  Turn right immediately after the railway line and continue for approx. 2 km to the entrance of Brodie Castle (on the left).  Turn left into Brodie Castle and follow the directions above.  

Registration.  Registration will be adjacent to Brodie Castle in a Club tent.  At Registration, there will be:

  • Hired dibbers ready for collection.
  • Maps for participants on the yellow course – please make sure you collect your yellow course map before going to the Start.
  • Limited entry on the day.  

Toilets.   Toilets are available at the Brodie Castle car park.  The nearest public toilets are available at Grant Park in Forres.   

Start and Finish

The start and finish will be close to (within 50 m) of event registration and download, which are both a short walk from the Car Park (around 250 m).

Courses

Three courses:

  • Yellow. 2.1 Km, 17 Controls.
  • Orange.  3.3 Km, 18 Controls.
  • Light Green.  4 km, 23 Controls.

 

Terrain

Brodie Castle offers parkland and a good path network, with deciduous and coniferous woodland.  

1:5000m, with 2.5m contours.

Entry Details

Entries are online via SI Entries. 

  • Online entries will be open until 23:59 hours on Wednesday 21 August at normal prices.
  • Late entries and Limited EOD until 11:30 am on the day, subject to an additional £1 and map availability.  Entries can also be edited/changed/cancelled until this closure again subject to map availability.

Entry Fees:

  • Senior Member - £5.00
  • Senior Non-Member - £6.00
  • Junior / Student Member - £3.50
  • Junior / Student Non-Member - £4.50
  • £1 discount if using own SI-Card

Safety Information

Safety

  • Competitors take part in this event at their own risk.
  • Competitors must be aware of, and take care to avoid, other path users on the courses.
  • Please be aware of trip hazards, slippery slopes, uneven surfaces, tree roots, stony and broken ground, kerbs, steps, fallen branches/logs and low branches near control sites.  Competitors must wear full leg cover.  Shoes with grip are recommended.
  • Please be careful and avoid collisions with members of the public and other competitors.
  • Please note that Brodie Castle has a pond/lake.  This water hazard is out of bounds and must not be entered or crossed.
  • Competitors are advised that all courses cross the main estate road and to check for traffic before doing so.  'Caution runner' signs will be displayed to warn drivers of competitors using the roads and being in the car parking areas.  
  • Drivers are advised to observe the estate speed limits - either 20 mph or 10 mph as indicated within the estate.
  • Please note that the estate may have ticks, so please check yourself after the run and remove any found, ideally within 48 hours.
  • Please note that a waterproof may be made compulsory if inclement weather.  Participants will be advised at registration and by a sign on the way to the start if that is the case.
  • Please note that the safety bearing is to head due east until either the castle or estate boundary wall is reached.

Safety & Risk

  • All Competitors take part at their own risk and a choose a course that matches their experience and fitness.

  • Yellow and White course competitors must collect their maps from registration before going to the start.

  • You MUST report to Download by Course Closing Time

  • Be careful on/near/crossing any roads

  • All competitors must wear warm clothing and /or waterproof clothing as appropriate.

  • Competitors are advised to notify the organiser of any relevant medical conditions and should complete any details on SI entries.

Important Information

Safety and Risk: A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. You MUST report to download by course closing time.

Insurance: If you have joined an orienteering club, or are competing in one of your first 3 events, then you are covered by our public liability insurance.

Privacy: when participating in our events/activities your name may appear in the results section of this website or in newspaper reports. Read our Privacy Policy to see how we look after your personal data.

Hired Si Cards: We provide loan of these if you don't have your own but if you lose it there will be a £30 charge for its replacement.
