Lossiemouth Town and Oakenhead

Event Summary

UPDATE - Friday 10 January 2025.   Following a course inspection today (Friday 10 January), paths in open land and open areas of the forest will be icy underfoot, but passable with care and picking the right line.  Please slow down in these areas and take extra care to avoid slipping.  Paths in covered forest areas are ice free.  The Lossiemouth East Beach Car Park is pretty icy.  It may be better for drivers to park on nearby roads which are clear of ice/snow and all within a short distance of registration.  Recommended roads to park are: North Eastern end of Church Street, Moray Street and MacDuff Street.  A marshal will be at the car park to provide any advice.

UPDATE - Friday 10 January 2025.   Clothing Dump.  There will be a clothing dump next to the start where you can leave any clothes prior to your run.  This will be manned by the start official.  Please return from the finish to the start (100 m) to collect your items before returning to download.

Welcome to our first event of 2025.  This time, we will be at Lossiemouth Oakenhead, where we last orienteered around 6 years ago.  Ken Anderson has planned three great courses for you to kick start the 2025 local league: yellow, orange and light green.

Please don't forget that after the event, and in the evening, we will have our Club Awards and Social Event at Rafford Village Hall (6 - 9 pm, doors open at 5.30 pm).  All Club members are welcome to attend.  Please bring your own sharing contribution for food and contact our Chair, Rob Parkinson (chair@mor.scot), to let him know what you plan to bring.  We will also have our awards and a quiz devised and hosted by our Club juniors.  What more can you ask!

Directions and Parking

Registration.  The event will take place at Lossiemouth Oakenhead.  Registration will be close to the Lossiemouth East Beach car park.

Directions and Parking:  From all directions, travel to Lossiemouth on the A941 from Elgin, turn right on Church St and follow the road until just after it swings right by the Lossiemouth East Beach Car Park.  The Lossiemouth East Beach Car Park is pretty icy.  It may be better for drivers to park on the nearby roads which are clear of ice and all within a short distance of registration.  Recommended roads to park are: North Eastern end of Church Street, Moray Street and MacDuff Street.  A marshal will be at the car park to provide any advice.  If this car park is full, continue on Church St to further parking on the river in front of Lossiemouth Bay Caravan Park (6 mins walk to Registration).  This car park has a height restrictor, so is not suitable for motorhomes.

Toilets.  There are toilets are on the river front on Seatown Road (3 mins walk from Registration) and at the Pitgaveny St parking (7 mins walk from Registration).

Start and Finish

Start.  The start will be approx. 500m from registration.  The route to the start will be taped and will follow Church Street, through the car park (in front of the Lossiemouth Bay caravan park), and into open land approximately 100m from the car park.

Finish.  The finish will be approx. 500m from registration and within 100m of the start.  Please follow the taped route back to registration.  You MUST report to registration by the course closing time of 1330 hours, even if you retire and do not finish.

Clothing Dump.  There will be a clothing dump next to the start where you can leave any clothes prior to your run.  This will be manned by the start official.  Please return from the finish to the start (100 m) to collect your items before returning to download.
