Northern Orienteering Urban League - YourOMaps

Event Summary

YourOMaps Northern Orienteering Urban League for 2025

Welcome to event #4 of this year's Northern Urban League, kindly sponsored by YourOMaps.  With the kind permission of CO 39 Regt, this event will be held at Kinloss Barracks.  It will be on a new map, and promises to be another fast and furious event!

Please bring photo ID (passport, driver's licence or young scot card are ideal) with you to gain you access to the Base.  Sorry, no photo ID, no access!  Please note that Juniors at Primary School and accompanied by an adult do not need photo ID.  Given security requirements, you must pre-enter.  There will be no entry on the day, except for military and Barrack staff.

Two courses (long and short) have been planned.  All competitors can run either course on their own, as the Barracks and Married Quarter areas are virtually traffic-free.

This year's Series has six events, organised by BASOC, INVOC and MOR.  The event dates and locations are as follows:

  • Event 1: Thursday 12 June 2025 - Nairn West - INVOC.
  • Event 2: Wednesday 18 June 2025 - Fochabers - MOR.
  • Event 3: Wednesday 25 June 2025 - Aviemore - BASOC.
  • Event 4: Wednesday 2 July 2025 - Kinloss Barracks - MOR.
  • Event 5: Friday 22 August 2025 - Dalneigh - INVOC.
  • Event 6: Wednesday 27 August 2025 - Grantown-on-Spey - BASOC.

Series Coordinators: Andrew Campbell (MOR) (fixtures@mor.scot) and Colin Salisbury (INVOC) (colinsalisbury65@icloud.com)

Courses

Two courses will be on offer:

  • Short - 3.5 Km (optimum distance), negligible climb.

Competitors can run any of the two courses on their own.  However, the roads on the Base and in the Married Quarter areas may have traffic movement and all competitors must look for traffic when crossing them.

Terrain

Kinloss Barracks is a military base consisting of old aircraft hangers, open grass, concrete areas and some administrative buildings. To make route choice more interesting, the map is marked with out of bounds that are artificial barriers which either may or may not be marked with tape in the terrain. If you cross through these areas, even though they are not taped, you will be disqualified.

1:4000m, with 2.5m contours to ISSprOM Standard produced in 2025.
