Event Summary

Welcome to our AGM and Club Champs event at Aberlour.  The event will be based in Aberlour parish church on the North side of the main square opposite the Co-op.

Club Champs

Everyone is welcome to join us for the score event, but only Club members will qualify for the Club Champs.

There will be two courses - an Open and Junior Course.  The Junior course will be a 30-minute score for M/W14 and under age classes.  For all older age classes, the Open course will be a 45-minute score.  With planning finalised, Juniors under 16 years on the day of the event may run either course unaccompanied.  

Please be ready to leave assembly at 1100 hours to walk to the start (approximately 300m) where there will be a race brief on the rules of the event ahead of the start at 1115 hours (approximately).  Open course competitors will be given a map at the start.  Juniors competitors should collect their maps at registration before walking to the start.  All competitors must punch the start before there run and punch the finish at the end.  Juniors Course competitors will start at 1115 hours (approximately) and Open Course competitors will start at 1120 hours (approximately).  Please note that adults running on the Open course may still review the Junior Course map with their children.

Each competitor will be allocated a handicap according to age class and gender.  Please note that entries AFTER the online closing date (2359 hrs on Wednesday 19 August) will NOT receive a handicap.

Prizes (1st, 2nd, 3rd and a spot prize) will be awarded for each course at the AGM.

AGM

The AGM will be held directly after completion of the Club Champs.  We would encourage everyone to stay and bring a picnic to consume while we hold the AGM.  Timings have yet to be confirmed, but the AGM is likely to kick off around 1:00 pm.

Directions and Parking

Directions.  From the North, please take the A941 heading south out of Elgin towards Rothes.  Continue through Rothes, towards Craigellachie, and onto the A95 into Aberlour.  The Aberlour Parish Church is on the right hand side at the end of the town, opposite the Coop.

From the South, please take the A95 road towards Aberlour.  The Aberlour Parish Church is on the left hand side as you enter the town, opposite the Coop. 

Parking.  Aberlour has plenty of parking.  There is a large car park at the Alice Littler Speyside Way car park (w3ws///mainland.topical.stoppage), approximately 200 m from the Church, or road-side parking on the main street, A95.  Please note that the Alice Littler Speyside Way car park can be busy if the weather is nice.

Registration/Download.  Registration and Download will be at the Aberlour Parish Church (w3ws:///adapt.tapes.trifling).  At Registration, there will be:

  • Hired dibbers ready for collection.
  • Maps for participants on the Junior Score course – please make sure you collect your map before going to the Start.
  • Limited entry on the day.  Please note that Moravian has now gone cashless!  So, card payment only please.

Participants can change and have packed lunches in the Church, but please leave O shoes outside.  Please take away all rubbish.

Toilets.  The church has kindly allowed use of its toilets.  There are also public toilets next to the church.  These toilets are by credit card entry for a fixed fee.

Start and Finish

The start and finish will be a short distance (approximately 300 m) from Aberlour church.

Courses

Two Courses:

  • Open.  A 45-min score event for the Club Championship.
  • Junior (M/W14 and below).  A 30-min score event and prize.

The score event will consist of around 30 controls of equal value, with penalties added for times over the 30-mins and 45-mins respectively.  The final score results will be based on a handicap system.  The Open course map is double-sided.

Terrain

Open and Juniors course competitors will spend at least 50% of their time in the forest.  Please dress appropriately, with full leg cover required.  Shoes with grip are recommended. 

In the forest sections, courses have been designed so that runners do not cross the worst areas of wind-blow trees.  The 'thick undergrowth' symbol has been used to denote areas that should be avoided, especially on steep slopes.

Entries are online via SI Entries only.  

  • Entries open online from Tuesday 28 July 2026 and will close at 23:59 pm on Wednesday 19 August 2026 at normal prices.  Online entries can also be edited/changed/cancelled until this closure, subject to map availability. 
  • Limited Entry on the Day subject to an additional £1 and map availability.  

Entry Fees: 

  • Senior (21 and older) BOF Member - £6.00.
  • Senior SOA-only Member - £7.00.
  • Senior Non-Member - £8.00 
  • Junior (20 and younger) and Student BOF/SOA Members - £4 
  • Junior/Student Non-Member - £5 

£1 discount if using own SI-Card.

Safety Information

Safety

  • Competitors take part in this event at their own risk.
  • Competitors must be aware of, and take care to avoid, other path users and road traffic on the courses. 
  • Competitors are advised that the Courses do not cross the High Street (A95), but they will cross it in walking to the start and from the finish.  In doing so, competitors must cross the A95 High Street at the pedestrian crossing outside Co-op.
  • Please note that the urban areas of the Open and Junior courses will take place on quiet 20 mph residential roads. 
  • Please be aware of trip hazards, steep slopes and steps, slippery paths (moss), uneven surfaces, litter and dog fouling. 
  • Please be careful and avoid collisions with members of the public and other competitors.

Ticks and Covid

Ticks

Risk Awareness:   Please be aware that ticks are common across many of the areas we run in and can carry infections such as Lyme Disease and Tick-Borne Encephalitis.  Ticks are active in the UK primarily from March to October, but year-round vigilance is recommended.

Prevention Strategies:   

  • Wearing full leg and abdomen cover in the forest.  
  • Applying insect repellent to exposed skin and clothing.
  • Checking yourself for ticks after your run.  Common areas for ticks include behind the knees, underarms, hairline, and any pressure points.
  • Considering vaccination against TBE, if visiting high-risk areas in Europe or Asia.

Tick Removal and Symptoms:   Consider using a tick removal tool to ensure the tick is removed quickly and completely.   If a tick has attached, it should be removed as soon as possible.

Health Action:  If symptoms develop, such as a rash or flu-like symptoms, individuals should seek medical advice promptly and mention the tick bite, as not all doctors may be familiar with the conditions.
