MORAY 2023 – six days of Scottish Orienteering
Elizabeth Furness writes to update us on planning for next year's Scottish 6 Days, 30 July - 4 Aug 2023…

The title says it all: a wonderful week of orienteering on some of the best terrain in the UK – on our doorstep. As with all orienteering events, this one doesn’t happen without those who enjoy and take part in the sport volunteering their time/enthusiasm/general life or work experience to ensure a successful and memorable event for all.

Moravian Orienteers take on the central elements of the week’s events whilst each day is organised by one of the larger Scottish clubs, supported by smaller clubs. All the Planners, Controllers and Day Organisers have been identified and all the central roles that do require detailed orienteering experience or expertise have been filled.

Organiser needed for our Summer Score event!
Our next formal event is the Summer Score at Findhorn, followed by the Club AGM. We do not have an organiser for this event - if you would like to volunteer to organize, please contact Andrew Campbell (chair@mor.scot). The AGM after the event usually lasts around 30-45 mins. Timings for the day and entry details will be confirmed soon on the club website (www.mor.scot). Why not bring along some lunch, and enjoy the social gathering with fellow club members after your run.

    Roseisle North Saturday event
What a lovely day we had last Saturday at Roseisle North.  Thanks to all the helpers - many of who are pictured below at the Registration/Welcome tent.  It was great to see our Juniors taking charge in such a capable manner.  Finlay (Planner) and Kate (Organiser) put together some great entertainment for us, ably supported by Paul Furness (Mentor) and other club members.
Check out the results and look up routegadget to see the different routes taken in the forest.

  • INVOC Event at CAWDOR

INVOC have an event at Cawdor this Wednesday 25th May

Closing date for Cawdor Wood entries is on Monday (23rd) at midday.

     https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?elid=Y&event_id=9961

Cawdor Wood was first used as part of the 1976 World Orienteering Championships, and was the venue for INVOC's first ever event in 1978 - organised by Ken Naismith.  It is a lovely mature open woodland with a scattering of pine areas with different areas of runnability adding complexity to the terrain. There is a good path network and areas of complex contours.  The forest surrounding the castle was left relatively unscathed following the recent storms.  It has not been used by INVOC for many years.  Steve Smitirthwaite, who re-mapped it for us, described it as the best area he has mapped in years.

    Courses from white to green.

Starts open until 6.15pm, and courses close at 7.15pm.

    Hope you can make it.
