  • MORAVIANS at JK 2022

Great news from the JK in South Wales
The team of 16 Moravians who travelled to South Wales over the Easter Weekend notched up 6 podium places in all, followed by a great relay result on Monday. It was a warm and sunny weekend and everyone seemed to have a great time. It was really good to be able to meet up as a club, clustered round the Moravian banner at long last.

The Sprint event on Friday produced two medallists, Isobel (1st) and Finlay (3rd), plus two top ten finishes, Morag 7th and Andrew 10th. The wooden spoon was awarded to - Eddie, who managed to miss out four controls in two separate groups. He also missed out control 1 then had to return to it after punching 2. He's had better days.

Days 2 and 3 results were added together to produce overall results for the JK title. More podium places were won here. There were two gold medals for Finlay and Eddie, a silver for Isobel, a bronze for Anna, and three top ten places, Kate 6th, and Sophie and Andrew both 8th. We had another spectacular wooden spoon here, this time going to Rob on day 2. Following his splits on the course results he manage to plummet from 1st to  112th over the course of one control. Can anyone else beat that?! He retrieved the situation on day 3 by finishing 6th.

  • Easter Egg Trails at Brodie Castle

Moravian Orienteering Club have teamed up with NTS to plan 2 Easter Egg trails at Brodie Castle this Easter. Links to the event page can be found in the MOR Diary. The trails use the MOR orienteering map and are marked with O kites.

Update: 2,100 maps were sold for this - this is just the juniors!

    From NTS:

"Brodie Bunny needs your help! Join us on 15th - 18th April from 10am - 4pm, follow the Easter Egg Trails around the grounds of Brodie Castle, collect the clues, solve the puzzle and earn your chocolate-y reward!

Each trail including the chocolate-y treat is £4. There will be a short, buggy friendly trail and a longer trail for the more adventurous explorers! No need to book in advance, just show up on the day.

Come for the trails, but stay for a whole day of fun! Entrance to Playful Garden will be free and there will be various family fun activities (some for free and some at an additional cost). And our cafes will be open so you can refuel for even more fun!"

Please check the event page before attending in case of any updates to this information.

  • MORAVIANS at the British Champs 2022

On Saturday, the McLuckie family and Eddie Harwood headed to Golden Valley & Cognor Wood in Hampshire for the British Long Championships.  It was stunning weather with temperatures reaching 18℃, which added to the challenge on the long, hilly courses.  I think all of us were fairly happy with our results on the physically challenging terrain.  Eddie had an amazing result on the M70L winning by an impressive margin of nearly 4 minutes!  Finlay was beaten into 2nd place on the M14A course by his ScotJos buddy, Finn Selmer-Duguid of Tayside.  Kate and Morag finished 6th and 7th in their classes, with Peter also running well on a 9.4km course with 460m of climb!  Amazingly we were trying to avoid sun-burn in the beautiful arena while waiting for the prize-giving.
The relays were back in the same Arena on Sunday but visited some different areas, giving faster running (apparently!)  Kate and Finlay teamed up with Ellie Darlow from Roxburgh Reivers to win the Junior Adhoc Relay.  It was an exciting last leg, with Finlay going off in 2nd position but clocking a 30 minute run for his 3.7km Green course to bring them into first place.
In the Open Short Relay event, Morag & Peter struggled with the "excitement" of the relay and failed to match Eddie's amazing run, with him pulling the team up into 6th place overall.
Overall, a fun weekend of orienteering, with a great atmosphere.
    Morag

  • Compass Sport Trophy success

Congratulations to the Moravian team that battled with rain, steep muddy slopes and undergrowth to secure a creditable 3rd place in the Compass Sport Trophy Regional competition at Callander Crags last Saturday (12th March).

Moravians were one of the 15 'smaller' clubs that took part in this Scotland-wide event, and we finished just a few points behind MAROC, the 2nd placed team. Follow this link for full results from the event. Some of the team are seen here before their run (which is why they look so clean!). As we came 3rd we have qualified for the National final, which will be held in Scotland this year, on Sunday 16th October at Tulliallan and Devilla, near Alloa. Keep that date free - it would be great to have as many Moravians as possible representing the club, and enjoying the event.

Could you Organise our Next Saturday League Event on 23 April 2022?
Following on from our great Millbuies event, where we had a number of new families attend, we would love to maintain the momentum and have our next Saturday League event in April.  Unfortunately, we are still short of an organiser to do so.  Pippa has kindly volunteered to be the planner, but an organiser for Dufftown is still needed to bring everything together on the day.  Even if you haven’t organised before, then please do not worry as you will have a mentor to help.  Access, permissions and entry details will be arranged for you, so the main role entails coordinating the risk assessments, final details and setting up/taking down the kit on the day.  Without someone coming forward, we may have to cancel the event.

If you are interested, then please contact newsletter@mor.scot, by 14 March 2022.  Go on – give it a try......!

  • MOR Pre Entry Policy

We have re-assessed our current entries system and will be trialling a new system from our next event at Logie on 19 February 2022. All competitors must still pre-enter via SI Entries, in line with SOA requirements, but will now be offered two entry deadlines, with the second LATE ENTRY up to the start of the day before the event, ( i.e. Midnight Thursday for a Saturday event), subject to map availability and at an additional cost.  We would still encourage entries by the first closing date to guarantee your entry.  If the trial over the next few Moravian events proves to be successful, we will continue for our future events.

Moravians went to the woods today...  (no bears)

Thanks to Fran Britain (planner) and Kaisa Oikkonen (organiser) for a great Moravian Saturday League event. Despite some COVID restrictions it seemed like the old days (BC?). Thanks to Ian & Rosie (Download & Results) we had live results on the website during the event, and not printing splits meant we didn't need a generator for mains power. It was great to see everyone out enjoying themselves - helped by the kind weather.

Fran's courses tested our O techniques  with as well as our fitness. The extensive path network in Sanquhar would normally simplify legs however the planning made sure you had lots of route choice.

Route Gadget is now up (see Results page), so put your routes so we can compare which options people chose. If you are not sure how to do this see this link   How to add your routes on Moravian Routegadget | Moravian Orienteers

The next MOR event is the Night O at Findhorn on 26th January - see MOR Diary for details.
