A select Moravian team took part in the Compass Sport Cup Final (Trophy) at Tankersley near Sheffield on 17th October. The team came a very creditable 4th (from 14 teams), just 5 points off the INTERLOPERS (INT) score. As well as getting great results on each course, our juniors did exceptionally well, especially Kate McLuckie, who won the short green running against the 16/18 age runners. This was one of Moravian's best ever team results at the Final.
We checked with Nick Barrable (Editor of CompassSport magazine), and he has confirmed that the last time MOR were in the CSC finals was the late 80s. We were 2nd in 1989 and 3rd in 1988 in the Trophy competition, which is for smaller clubs. So that means it is over 30 years since we were in the finals. Our juniors did particularly well - the Howards, McLuckies, Daniel Campbell and Michael Bishenden all had good runs. We were well supported by the adults - the pressure was on not to mis-punch in a tricky area with lots of pits and other confusing features, as we only had 14 runners with 13 to count. We were 4th overall out of 13 teams in the smaller clubs competition, and were just pipped by Interlopers to the position of best small club in Scotland. Thanks are due to South Yorkshire Orienteers for organising the event at such short notice. Over 800 runners took part in the event.
